Narrative
Windbreaker is a synthetic cultivar composed of the ten most robust phenotypes from a collection of more than 700 plants of 37 accessions. NRCS field personnel collected these accessions from native stands on bottom lands and alluvial fans subject to flooding from elevations of 3,800 and 6,000 ft. in New Mexico, Texas and Arizona. Some collections are from dry plains and hills.
