This is a selection of RSD 1998044. Of 27 seeds of RSD 1998044, 16 germinated. ISSR markers revealed that all seedlings were unique and therefore zygotic (work performed by Prof Mikeal Roose, 2001). Retained 15 seedlings. (RR Krueger, 01/24/2010)On 10/30/2007, this accession was observed by Toni Siebert, David Karp, and myself. The fruit were typically citronish, with sour, ricey flesh and many seeds. The rind was sweet. This accession had a more persistent style than the other citron accessions planted at CVARS. One tree (only) showed a tendency to produce curved fruit, probably due to sunburn. It is not known why this occurred only on one tree. On 01/08/2009, three selections were made from RSD 1998044 and propagated for maintenance under protection: RRUT 406, RRUT 407, and RRUT 408. The remainder of the seedlings will be maintained for the time being. RRUT 406 has smaller fruit with smoother skin than is the norm for this group. (RR Krueger, 01/31/2010)
