Narrative
First obtained from coal miners in Harlan, Kentucky after the depression (they brought some seed with them from other countries). Similar to varieties mountain folk grew behind their outhouses in years past. Over the years, seed has been added from collections at old old grave yards, homesteads in the eastern Kentucky mountains, around Golden Pond, the land between the lakes, and around very old one room schools and churches. Mostly dark red, dark pink, white, off-white, yellow, and some deep dark blue/black. Used as honeybee pollen feeders, beautification, back-drop, preservation, and to attract pollinators for other plants.
