Environment description: under bamboo back from the edge of the road.
Comment: USDA ARS 2004 Plant Expedition in association with MAFF Associated species: under bamboo, Betula platyphylla, no fruits were observed. The leaves of this plant were beginning to turn red - characteristic of V. smallii
