Environment description: .2 miles before mile mark 2; near the road in upland woods in a sunny gap in the woodlands; Soil; sandy with organic matter and a thin litter layer. Plants were 2-2.5 m high, multistemmed with upright arching habit.
Comment: This woodland area was thoroughly described by Ware and Ware (Castanea 57(2);110-122) as a dusjunct area of mountain speciesin the inner coastal plain.
