Locality: Near town of Portola, Sierra Valley. South on A-23, 4-1/2 miles east off Route 70. One mile north.
Coordinates: 40.0406, -120.4914 (Map it)
Elevation: 1794m.
Environment description: East exposure. 1% slope. Heavy clay (38% sand, 42% silt, 20% clay), basalt, well drained. Dry (probably wet seep in spring).
Number of plants sampled: 100
Comment: Sagebrush, bluegrass, lupine (Lupinus selliloskill - arid soil lupine).
