Narrative

Rapid spreading, open sod forming, rhizomatous, vigorous, late maturing, drought resistant, 42-chromosome wheat grass. Leaves, sheaths, and seed heads pubescent. Pubescence is distinctly noticeable on margins of leaves and edges of glumese and lemmas. Widely adapted to Pacific Northwest and Great Basin states at elevations of 100 to 1800m on well drained, medium to heavy textured soils where annual precipitation averages 25 to 40cm. Used as pasture grass in range plantings, dryland waterways, burned-over timber seedlings and in dryland mixtures with alfalfa.
