Narrative
Shrub-small tree, 3-8m tall. Root suckers forming thickets or colonies. Trunks shaggy-barked. Leaves 6-10cm long. Flowers in fascicles of 2-5 with 5-white petals appearing before leaves. Fruit 1-seeded drupe. Exocarp fleshy, red- purple or yellow. Stone flattened, indehiscent. Matures July-August. Adapted to wide range of soil types. Useful for wildlife cover and critical area plantings.
