Walnut 146 rootstock paradox. Chico source tree of DJUG 146 was evaluated in 1969 timeframe with the following results: High yield; Midseason harvest; Diameter 39mm; Payne nut shape; Poor separation of kernel; Good shell seal; 52 percent kernel; 5.4 average kernel grams; Light amber color kernel. Chico source tree of DJUG 151 was evaluated in 1969 timeframe with the following results: High yield; Late harvest season; 43mm average diameter; Payne shaped nut; Poor separation of kernel; Poor shell seal; 34 percent kernel; Kernel weight 4.0 grams; Amber kernel color.
