Narrative
A vigorous, disease-resistant thornless hybrid of black currant x gooseberry. Origin in Germany by Rudolf Bauer. German Plant Breeder Rights. Cross made in 1959, selected in 1970s, introduced in Europe in 1985. F2 open-pollinated selection of an amphidiploid F1 hybrid (R. nigrum L. 'Silvergieters Swarze' x R. grossularia 'Gruen Hansa'. Fruit: large to medium size berries, one to three per truss, uneven ripening, very good flavor, keeps well on the bush, slow picking rate by hand. Plant: very strong growth, spreading bushes, midseason, yield high, resistant to Powdery Mildew, white pine blister rust, leaf spot, and gall mite. Valuable for home gardens because of resistance and suitability for jams, jellies, and pies.
