Narrative
Type = Plum. Per Hurter (see citation): "The fruit is slightly larger than Harry Pickstone, which it most nearly resembles. It has a roundish oval shape. The skin colour is purplish red which changes to full red when ripe. The flesh is yellow. The fruit is ready for picking at Groot Drakenstein from the first to the second week of January. It has an excellent keeping quality, being capable of cold storage at a single temperature of --0,5 degrees Celcius for 21 days after which period the fruit still has a very good dessert quality. Trees of this cultivar have a moderately upright growth habit, are very vigorous and productive with a very low winter chilling requirement. Fruit and foliage are moderately resistant to bacterial spot (Xanthomonas pruni). The cultivar is purportedly self-compatible and blossoms early in the season, reaching full bloom at Groot Drakenstein during the fourth week of August and on an average 3-5 days before Harry Pickstone with which it is reciprocally cross-compatible."
