Narrative
PD 20170057 was derived from a cross between TX-2323 (PI 607469) and ‘UA 48’ (PI 660508). TX-2323 is a landrace accession collected from Mexico in 1987. UA 48 was developed by University of Arkansas from a cross between Arkot 8712 (PI 636101) and ‘FM 966’ (PI 642050). PD 20170057 displays a mid- to full-season maturity and combines excellent yield potential, fiber quality, and wide adaptation. Averaged over six total locations in 2018 and 2019, PD 20170057 produced lint yield less than each of the check cultivars Deltapine 393, Phytogen 72, and UA 48, while being equivalent for boll size, seeds boll-1, seed index, and lint index. PD 20170057 produced fiber length, fiber strength, uniformity, elongation, short fiber content, fiber quality index score 1, and quality index score 2 equal or superior to check cultivars. In particular, PD 20170057 produced higher fiber length, fiber strength, fiber quality index score 1, and fiber quality index score than all check cultivars. Overall, PD 20170057 consistently performed equal to or superior to commercial cultivars for lint yield, lint percent, fiber length, fiber strength, micronaire, uniformity, elongation, short fiber content, and quality index score 2.
