Narrative
WPL-IpaVillo1 is an allotetraploid that originates from the peanut wild relatives A. ipaënsis GKBSPSc 30076 PI 468322 x A. villosa V12812 PI 330651. It has prostrate growth habit, with alternate branching pattern. Stem is purple at base and transitions into green moving apically. Elliptic main stem leaves and obovate side stem leaves. Pubescence on abaxial leaf surface. Apical leaflet average length 51.05mm and width 29.44mm. Basal leaflet average length 45.38mm and 29.41mm width. Measurements taken from the first opened leaf from side branches. 62 days to anthesis. Orange flowers. Pod somewhat reticulate with marked beak. Average seed dimensions: L=12.3mm, W=6.2mm, 100 seed weight= 20.07. Under field conditions, main stem height was 18.3cm 85 DAP. It has 88.7 % pollen fertility. WPL-IpaVillo1 has moderate resistance to late leaf spot and strong resistance to rust. Description:
WPL-IpaVillo1 originates from the cross between the diploid peanut wild relatives A. ipaënsis GKBSPSc 30076 PI 468322 x A. villosa V12812 PI 330651. Cuttings from the resulting diploid sterile hybrids were treated with 0.2% colchicine overnight. Newly induced, fertile and peanut compatible allotetraploids were recovered from this treatment.
