Environment description: Shady swamp forest with road running between Agarista population. Agarista was the predominant plant throughout. Soggy but solid ground, especially on northern side of road. Growing in 3/4 shade. Slope: Generally flat.

Associated species: Liriodendron tulipifera; Liquidambar styraciflua; Morus sp.; Clethra alnifolia; Persea sp.; Pinus taeda; Acer rubrum; Woodwardia areolata; Microstegium vimineum; Morella cerifera.
Comment: Tall, caning shrub to small tree up to 20 feet tall. Capsules collected from 10 different plants on the north side of the road and 10 plants on the south side of the road [assigned field collection numbers 24Flam40 and 24Flam41, respectively, but combined together at USNA.] This is possibly the only population of this species in South Carolina. The predominant plant on the north side of the road and common to the south as well. Species occurrence frequent at this location.
