Narrative
The 10-stalk mean stalk height (ground level to top visible dewlap, dewlaps form the hinge of the blade joint in sugarcane) of CP 16-2283 was 249.1 cm. The mean internode length of CP 16-2283 stalks at the fifth internode from the ground was 12.4 cm. Stalk diameter was measured at the middle of the second (26.9 mm), fifth (27.5 mm), and tenth (23.8 mm) internodes from the ground. CP 16-2283 exhibited a Concave-Convex shaped internode and a growth ring with a mean width of 3.70 mm at the fifth internode from the ground. The root band of CP 16-2283 was 7.31 mm wide. The buds of CP 16-2283 were greenish yellow (2.5 GY8/4). Buds of CP 16-2283 had shapes described as Squarish pentagonal with wing inserted high region with emarginated basal wing region at the fifth internode from the ground. The bud length and width means of the fifth bud from the bottom from five stalks of CP 16-2283 were 7.58 and 7.02 mm, respectively. Leaf sheath pubescence was heavy towards lateral center, located top half of the leaf of the leaf sheath. CP 16-2283 is resistances to Sugarcane mosaic virus strain E (mosaic), smut (caused by Ustilago scitaminea (Sydow & P. Sydow), brown (caused by Puccinia melanocephala H. & P. Sydow), and orange rusts (caused by Puccinia kuehnii E.J. Butler), leaf scald (caused by Xanthomonas albilineans Ashby, Dowson), and moderately resistant to ratoon stunt disease (caused by Leifsonia xyli subsp. xyli Evtsuhenko et al.).

CP 06-2897, is a breeding clone with high cane yield (CY) and an acceptable sugar yield (SY) in the CP breeding program. The male parent of CP 16-2283 was CP 06-2400, is a commercial cultivar released in 2013 for Florida organic soils.
