Environment description: Edge of parking area just below temple. Growing in 25 percent shade. Soil consists of some mineral substrate and organic matter over rocks. Slope: 20 degrees. Aspect: Southeast.

Associated species: Zelkova serrata; Lindera obtusiloba; Weigela subsessilis; Alangium platanifolium; Acer pictum subsp. mono [listed as A. mono]; Lindera erythrocarpa.
Comment: Upright to rounded, multistemmed tree; looks like this tree was damaged a long time ago and resprouted. Height 12 m; spread 9 m; DBH 30 cm. Grayish brown bark with minor flaking. Leaves deep green adaxially, light green abaxially. Fruit just ripening, light green to purply-black. Perhaps others in the area, but only one we encountered; seeds collected from one plant.
