Environment description: Opening in forest along ridgeline trail; low canopy of Quercus. Growing in 25 percent shade. Rocky and gravelly soil with organic matter layer. Slope: 20 degrees. Aspect: West.

Associated species: Quercus mongolica; Malus baccata; Viburnum opulus var. sargentii [listed as V. sargentii]; Acer barbinerve; Pyrus ussuriensis; Weigela florida; Actinidia polygama; Taxus cuspidata; Abies nephrolepis.
Comment: Widely spreading (flopping), multistemmed tree. Height 5 to 6 m; Spread 7 to 8 m; DBH 8 cm. Bark smooth with occasional lenticels/warty protrusions. Leaves typical for species, most with a leaf spot disease. Fruit brownish green, some red, none open yet; only tree along trail that had fruits. Occasional to common; seeds collected from one plant.
