Description:
Yukon Gold, tested as MSU yellow bean breeding line Y19817, was developed from the cross of X16908/Yellowstone. X16908 was an F4 selection derived from the cross of Y11405*/UC Canario 707. This selection had excellent bright yellow color derived from the Canario seed class parent developed at UC-Davis (Palkovic et al., 2015). MSU breeding line Y11405 also possessed good yellow color and desirable agronomic traits but lacked I gene and was therefore susceptible to BCMV. Yellowstone was a recent MSU variety with good yellow seed color, I gene, and desirable agronomic traits. The purpose of the cross was to combine desirable agronomic and improved bright yellow seed traits of the parents while maintaining high yield potential.
