Narrative
Tx430 carries the unstable dw3-ref allele that can revert to wild-type. A wild-type revertant of Tx430 called Tx430 Dw3 that is genetically similar to Tx430 dw3-ref except for the mutation was used as a male-parent in crosses to develop PU305, PU306, and PU307. Tx430 Dw3 was crossed as a male to SC124 (dw3-sd3), SC134 (dw3-sd4), and SC991(dw3-sd5), which are sorghum conversion lines carrying stable dwarf3 alleles. The F1 progeny from each cross were self-pollinated and after planting the F2 seeds in row-plots, the short plants from each row carrying the dw3 alleles were backcrossed with Tx430 Dw3. The resulting BC1F1 plants were self-pollinated to obtain BC1F2 populations. Short plants in each BC1F2 family were backcrossed to Tx430 Dw3 and the resulting BC2F1 plants were self-pollinated to obtain BC2F2 families. The dw3 plants in each family were self-pollinated for two generations to generate an array of BC2F4 progeny for each of the three crosses. A height stable progeny from each cross was selected and resulted in PU305 = 20WL7228 = SC124/Tx430 Dw3//Tx430 Dw3///Tx430 Dw3; PU306 = 20WL7221 = SC134/Tx430 Dw3//Tx430 Dw3///Tx430 Dw3; and PU307 = 20WL7233 = SC991/Tx430 Dw3//Tx430 Dw3///Tx430 Dw3.
