USDA-N7007 is a non-GM, maturity group (MG) VII soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] (Reg. No…, PI XX) germplasm released by the USDA Agricultural Research Service in conjunction with the North Carolina Agricultural Research Service in December of 2023. USDA-N7007 is a high-yielding high-protein F4-derived germplasm from the backcross of wild soybean [G. soja Siebold & Zucc] PI 366122 to small-seeded recurrent parent MG VII USDA cultivar N7103. This release is 25% wild soybean based on pedigree, and 11% based on DNA analysis using 2554 single nucleotide polymorphic (SNP) markers. Over 47 combined testing environments of the USDA Southern Uniform and USB Protein Diversity Tests (2018-2021), USDA-N7007 yielded 98% of the check mean (3416 kg ha-1) and 102% of the overall test mean (3312 kg ha-1). Description:
USDA-N7007 (experimental line N16-9198) originated from the cross N7103 (Carter et al., 2003) x NMS5-48-2-75. NMS5-48-2-75 was developed from a cross between N7103 and PI 366122 using bulk breeding and large populations, followed by pedigree selection. PI 366122 is a wild soybean maturity group (MG) IV plant introduction from Japan and was used in the development of the USDA-Max x Soja Core Set-1 (Eickholt et al., 2019). N7103 is a MG VII cultivar released for use in the production of Japanese natto (a dish made from fermented soybeans) because of its small seed size and good yield (Carter et al., 2003).
