Description:
USDA-N7007 (experimental line N16-9198) originated from the cross N7103 (Carter et al., 2003) x NMS5-48-2-75. NMS5-48-2-75 was developed from a cross between N7103 and PI 366122 using bulk breeding and large populations, followed by pedigree selection. PI 366122 is a wild soybean maturity group (MG) IV plant introduction from Japan and was used in the development of the USDA-Max x Soja Core Set-1 (Eickholt et al., 2019). N7103 is a MG VII cultivar released for use in the production of Japanese natto (a dish made from fermented soybeans) because of its small seed size and good yield (Carter et al., 2003). In addition, N7103 is extremely lodging resistant. The parents of N7103 were NTCPR90-143 and Pearl (Carter et al., 1995). NTCPR90-143 was derived from a cross between GaSoy17 (Baker and Harris, 1979) and Vanc
