Locality: Located approximately 2.25 miles north, northeast of Chatsworth on west side of Iowa Highway 12 (rest area), T94N R48W SW 1/4 SE 1/4 NW 1/4 Sec. 22.

Environment description: Disturbed woodland edge.
Number of plants sampled: 1
Associated species: Prunus virginiana, Lonicera maackia, Bromus inermis, Rhus glabra, Quercus macrocarpa, Ulmus americana, and Celtis occidentalis.
Aspect: Northwest; Slope: 45
Comment: At time of collection (17 April 2024) specimen was in peak flower compared to observations one year prior, where the same specimen was in peak flower on 7 May 2023 (Widrlechner, M., personal communication). Local Prunus americana also at or near peak flower on 17 April 2024. Suspected that only one genet was sampled, but specimen sampled was covering a 20 yard x 20 yard area with all stems considered phenologically in sync.

Narrative
Shrub in nature measuring approximately 12' in height with the largest stem estimated at 1" diameter. Numerous (hundreds) suckers covering a 20 yard x 10 yard area. Upper leaf surfaces with very sparse hairs and lower leaf surfaces extremely pubescent. Ovary summits and sepals (erect with entire margins) pubescent. Stem segments orange-brown on young stems with older stems transitioning to silvery grey. As of 2024, the current Iowa Department of Natural Resources list of Endangered, Threatened, and Special Concern species currently has Amelanchier humilis in Iowa listed as Threatened.
