Narrative
Bonsai. Age unknown; in training since 2018. Style: formal upright. Height at receipt: 4 feet (measured from surface roots to top of tree). Grown in a modern Chinese rectangle container. Comments from the donors: "This tree was collected in 2016 by Richard Le just outside of Denver, CO. It was then brought to Eisei-en for its initial styling and design by Bjorn Bjorholm in 2018. The tree is unique in its scale, taper, age, and character as a representative of one of North America's oldest and largest conifers. In fact, it has been dubbed "Little Lonely Doug" after the famous "Big Lonely Doug" Fir found in the Gordon River Valley of Vancouver, Canada. The tree was last repotted in Spring of 2020 and has been on display as a centerpiece at Eisei-en ever since."
