Narrative
This accession represents a population of induced tetraploids derived from Ames 32386, Ames 32388 and Ames 32389 (all Iowa sourced seed). These accessions were selected based on tolerance to high soil pH according to Hoch (unpublished thesis, 2018). Germinating seedlings of all three accessions were treated by placing a droplet of 5000uM trifluralin on the expanding meristems at the cotyledon stage. Putative tetraploids were identified based on stomata length (mean stomata length in diploids and tetraploids are 26.4 and 38.8 um, respectively). Approximately 22% of seedlings treated were tetraploid.
