Narrative
'FSA1602' is a polyploid St. Augustinegrass developed and released by the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station, University of Florida. It is highly resistant to gray leaf spot caused by Pyricularia oryzae. FSA1602 has high shade tolerance and is recommended for use in residential and commercial lawns in the southern regions of St. Augustinegrass adaptation. FSA1602 has a distinctive dark olive blue-green color making it stand out against other cultivars of St. Augustinegrass. Its typical stolons are wider than other commercial cultivars and its internode lengths are shorter than Floratam and 'SS-100' cultivars of St. Augustinegrass. It produces dense cover capable of resisting weeds. It is not as cold tolerant as diploid cultivars of St. Augustinegrass which limits its use further north.
