Comment: Bitter pecan is a large deciduous tree, reaching 80 feet or taller. Bark smooth, light grey to brown, splitting into thick, loose, red-tinged, plate-like scales. Buds dark reddish brown, brown, or black, valvate, hairy. Leaves odd-pinnately compound; leaflets 7-11, dark green and shiny above, more or less hairy beneath, with serrate margins; lateral leaflets asymmetrical, terminal leaflet oblong-lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate. Nuts fuzzy, yellow to brown, 1-1.5”, oval to oblong, conspicuously 4-angled and flattened, borne in clusters of 3-4. Seeds collected from one plant.
