Comment: Pinxter azalea is an erect to vase-shaped, deciduous shrub with a slightly rounded crown; 6-8 feet (to 12 feet) tall and wide. Found growing along mesic ridges of creeks, rivers, steepheads. Flowers clear pink to raspberry pink, fragrant, early spring. Leaves appear after flowering; dark green, obovate, elliptic, simple, alternate, with white to gray-white hairs on undersides; margins finely toothed, yellow, rusty red; bronze fall color. Fruits collected from 3 plants.
