'Ho 13-739' is resistant to smut (Sporisorium scitamineum) and mosaic (Sorghum mosaic virus) and moderately suspectable to brown rust (Puccinia melanocephala) and leaf scald caused by (Xanthomonas albilineans). It was also moderately susceptible to the sugarcane borer (Diatraea saccharalis F). The canopy of Ho 13-739 was dark green and very erect and the leaves were bent near the tip. The dewlaps were olive green in color and deltoid shaped . Auricles were present, but very small and transitional in shape . Leaf sheaths were light green, smooth (no silicate hair), loosely attached to the stalk, and have moderate wax that does not rub off easily. The rind color on stalks of Ho 13-739 was yellow-green when exposed to the sun. Wax on the stalks of Ho 13-739 was moderate, and there were no growth cracks. Internodes were mostly straightly aligned with a concave-convex shape. Bud was rhomboid in shape and without a bud groove.
