Narrative
DS49-142 is an early maturity group V soybean germplasm line with reduced mature seed damage (visual mold, stink bug feeding, discoloration, etc.) when subjected to hot humid conditions during plant maturation and dry down. DS49-142 has lower levels of Phomopsis seed decay (Diaporthe longicolla), seedcoat wrinkling, purple seed stain (Cercospora kikuchii), and toxins (nivalenol, diacetoxyscirpenol, cercosporin, and cytochalasin J), but higher seed germination, than susceptible checks. DS49-142 is resistant to frogeye leaf spot (Cercospora sojina Hara), but susceptible to stem canker (Diaporthe phaseolorum var. meridionalis), and races 2, 3, and 5 of soybean cyst nematode (Heterodera glycines Ichinohe). DS49-142 is resistant to peanut root knot nematode [Meloidogyne arenaria (Neil) Chitwood], southern root knot nematode [Meloidogyne incognita (Kofoid and White) Chitwood], and Javanese root knot nematode ((Meloidogyne javanica (Treub) Chitwood). DS49-142 is susceptible to races 1, 3, 4, 7, and 17 of Phytophthora root and stem rot caused by Phytophthora sojae. DS49-142 has determinate stem termination, purple flowers, light tawny pubescence, brown pod walls, black hila, and yellow seed coats with traces of green. Seeds of DS49-142 have 36.5% protein (48.6% protein meal) and 18.5% oil (13% moisture), and weigh 13.3 g/100 seeds. Mature plants are 81 cm tall and have a 1.4 lodging score (1-5).
