Environment description: Roadside; moist, but not wet Pinus palustris & Aristida forest. Elevation: 203 feet.
Associated species: Pinus palustris; Aristida sp.; Quercus hemisphaerica; Ilex vomitoria; Symplocos tinctoria; Vaccinium arboreum.
Comment: These data pertain to the seed parent plant of WLP 3243, which was originally collected from the wild but was planted in a cultivated setting in the 1980s.

Comment: Parent tree was planted in the 1980s, from material originally collected in the wild in Santa Rosa County. Description: Small single trunked, deciduous tree, 15 ft tall and 10 ft wide. Clean palmate leaves with 5 leaflets, serrate margins. Foliage is persistent during summer heat; which is possibly attributed to the garden conditions. Excellent pure red flowers, floriferous. Consistent, yearly, extremely heavy fruiting plant.
