Environment description: Uplands and on bluffs; understory of pine-hardwood forest.
Number of plants sampled: 13
Associated species: Pinus taeda, Ilex opaca, Quercus alba, Carpinus caroliniana, Juniperus virginiana, Vaccinium sp., Ostrya virginiana, Vacciinium arboreum, Cornus florida, Smilax sp., Liquidambar styraciflua, Acer rubrum, and Viburnum rufidulum.
Comment: A widely scattered population with moderate abundance. Some capsules were just begining to split when collected.

Plants in nature are large, clonally spreading colonies to 20 feet in height and similar width. Peak bloom occurred the last week of April (2023).
