Description:
Tamrun OL18L was derived from a cross between a high oleic runner cultivar, Tamrun OL02, and TxL017746- an F3 early-maturing runner breeding line. TxL017746 was a selection developed from the cross PI109839 × Florunner, made in the greenhouse in College Station in 2000. Crosses were made in the greenhouse in Lubbock in 2004 with Tamrun OL02 as female, and Tx017746 as male. F1 seed were planted in the greenhouse in 2005, and harvested as individual plants. F2 seed were planted in the Puerto Rico winter nursery in 2005 and harvested as individual plants. A total of 506 F3 plant rows were grown in a randomized complete block design with two replications in 2006. From these, 100 entries were selected based on row performance and evaluated as F4 plant rows in 3 replications in 2007; materials were grown at the J. Leek farm outside of Brownfield, TX in both years. Single seeds from chosen plant rows were selected for high oleic fatty acid content, and F5 single plants were grown and harvested individually at the J. Leek farm in 2008. Early trials of F6 entries were grown in 2009 and evaluated for yield, seed size, and maturity. Entries of F7 and successive generations were tested from 2010 to 2012. Selections were placed into Multiple-Location Runner Trials from 2013 to 2015, and into runner Advanced Line Tests from 2014 to 2016.
