Locality: Hokkaido Prefecture: Furano: The Tokyo University Forest in Hokkaido, Yamabe.
Comment: Cultivated. Parent tree originally collected in the wild, brought from forest areas from either Mt. Dairoku (ca 1459 m) or Mt. Ashibetsu (ca 1726 m). [The specific original field collection number/NA accession number for this clone is not known at present, but it would be the same as one of 10 accessions, NA 58856 through 58861 or 58864 through 58867, which all had the same locality data. These had the following "JH" field collection numbers, respectively: JH 31, 32, 37, 43, 44, 45, 54, 55, 60, 63. -SBL] The winter temperature at this site had a ten-year mean coldest mid-winter minimum temperature of -33.8 degrees C, and a ten-year overall mean daily mid-winter minimum temperature of -8.8 degrees C, similar to Minnesota and North Dakota in the U.S.
