Donation on 20230822 contained 1 seed packet.

Donor narrative: Collected in 2019 in Drosh, Chitral District, Pakistan. Type: Landrace. Purpose: Dry-sieved charas (‘hashish’); bhang (seeded inflorescence and leaf for food and drink); culinary seed. Narrative: Seeds of a charas landrace collected in Chitral District, a region of the Hindu Kush with a history of producing dry-sieved charas (‘hashish’). Prior to the 1970s, large-scale commercial cultivation of charas was widespread in Upper Chitral, particularly in and around Yarkhun and Laspur valleys. In recent decades, eradication campaigns have reduced cultivation to small household plots for personal use.
Broad-leafleted plants with morphology that mostly conforms to western notions of a classic Indica. Some accessions from Chitral can show broad-leafleted individuals that substantially exceed two metres in height. These seeds are assumed to be from 2018 harvest. They exhibited relatively poor germination rates on most recent testing.
