Environment description: Localized to west-facing moist slopes with steep (65 degree) slopes and typically associated with or on large rock boulders.

Associated species: Pycnanthemum muticum, Hydrangea arborescens subsp. arborescens, Sassafras albidum, Carya ovata, Actaea racemosa, Impatiens sp., Liriodendron tulipifera, Cercis canadensis, Eurybia macrophylla, and Parthenocissus quinquefolia.
