ND Rodeo (tested as ND172568), was developed from a single cross PT10-27/‘Lariat’ . PT10-27 is a Slow Darkening (SD) breeding line developed by P. Miklas from the USDA-ARS grain legume genetics program at Prosser, WA and it derives from a complex cross series involving Regular Darkening (RD) pinto cultivars Quincy, Montrose, the SD pinto CDC -WM-1, 93:677, a breeding line from University of Idaho, ICB-39, an interspecific line with scarlet runner bean (Phaseolus coccineus L.), P91105 and 94:1015, breeding lines from Michigan State University, and OT9630-17-25, a breeding line from USDA-ARS Prosser-WA. Lariat is a RD pinto cultivar released by North Dakota State University (NDSU) in 2009 and exhibits the characteristics of high-yield, upright growth habit (type IIa, short vine), with excellent lodging resistance and desirable seed characteristics (Reg. No. CV-293, PI 654383).
