Environment description: Beautiful xeric pine-oak upland community. Transitions to mesic slopes and then to seepage bottom, stringer wetland community adjacent to the Wolfe Creek. Area is on a regular 2-4[-year] burn cycle. Slope: 5%. Aspect: Northwest. Elevation recorded as 161 feet.

Comment: Compact, dense, rounded deciduous shrub. Typically grows 2-3 feet tall and wide. Flowers small, fragrant, white, clusters 1-2 inches long, mostly terminal or in upper leaf axil, in spring. Leaves simple, alternate, broad-ovate, medium to dark green; margins smooth to finely serrate; hairy to pubescent upper and lower surface. Common. Seed collected off 12 plants.
