Comment: Attractive woody rambling/climbing/twining vine to 30 feet, no tendrils. One to multiple bamboo-like canes with prickles at the base. Glossy, evergreen, leathery leaves with a pointed tip, alternate; oblong, lanceolate, or ovate and held vertically. Axillary greenish-white flowers. Pea-sized, shiny black fruit mature the second growing season after appearing. Dioecious. Common. Seed collected from a single heavily fruited specimen.
