Locality: Prairie Valley Preserve located 2.5 miles west of Gilbert on the southeast corner of Y Avenue and 170th, T84N R24W NW ¼ NW ¼ Sec. 7.

Habitat: Wild Habitat
Environment description: Prairie remnant. Historically grazed for estimated 75 years. Mid-upper slopes on slightly north, northwest-facing slopes.
Number of plants sampled: 4
Associated species: Lithospermum incisum, Bouteloua hirsuta, Bouteloua curtipendula, Lithospermum molle, Artemisia ludoviciana, Verbena stricta, Monarda fistulosa, Potentilla sp., Sorghastrum nutans, Andropogon geradii, Carex bicknellii, Asclepias verticillata, Asclepias syriaca, Solidago altissima, and Bromus inermis. Dominant grass is Poa pratensis.

Comment: Noted only four plants. At time of sampling (14 July), fruiting capsules were brown/dry and partially split open. Estimated 5-7 days past peak maturity. All four plants located within 30 yards of each other. Average distance between plants is approximately 8 yards. Prior reconnaissance efforts reported "20-30 flowering specimens" in preserve. During collection only four plants could be located.

Comment: Recollection. Site burned in late spring (2024) resulting in numerous (80 specimens marked on 20 June 2024) flowering specimens. At time of sampling (3 July 2024) majority of plants were at peak maturity with approximately 5% already dispersed and the upper portions of a few plants (5%) with capsules still rather green.
