Narrative
All specimens at collection site in nature noted with glabrous, anthocyanic leaves. Peak flowering noted at collection site on 4 May (2023). Specimens reaching approximately 20-25' in height. As of 2023, the current Iowa Department of Natural Resources list of Endangered, Threatened, and Special Concern species currently has Amelanchier laevis in Iowa listed as 'no status'. Initiated in 2021, an endangered plant scientific advisory group was assembled to review floristic surveys and herbarium specimens and through group discussion update or assign a recommended status for nearly 400 rare plant species. The current (2023) recommended status of Amelanchier laevis for Iowa is Special Concern.
