Narrative
Full name as recorded at U.S. National Arboretum: Camellia oleifera (open-pollinated seedling). From open-pollinated seed of NA 84160-01, a single plant growing at South Farm at the Woody Landscape Plant Germplasm Repository in College Park/Beltsville, Maryland, sown spring 2022. The potential for hybridization with other accessions or species is non-zero, but the plant is quite distant from any other members of the genus (no other accessions are known to be growing at the same facility). From the record of the seed parent accession, NA 84160: Received from Morris Arboretum in January 2006 (when the plants were first recorded) or earlier. This had been incorrectly lumped in with NA 64899 and qualified 64899-002; it should have received its own accession number. Probably a rooted cutting of Morris Arboretum plant 94-444-K.
