Narrative
Full name as recorded at U.S. National Arboretum: Buxus microphylla. Two plants in the collection that had been (mis)labeled as 51896*L and 51896*T but are morphologically very different from original plants NA 51896*H and 51896*J, Buxus sempervirens [formerly B. wallichiana]; genetic testing showed 51896*L to belong to B. microphylla var. japonica, and it was found to be a tetraploid using flow cytometry. The now-dead 51896*P also probably belonged to this accession. The earliest check note for 51896*T, a later propagation of the same vintage as 51896*L and 51896*P, indicated that it had been labeled B. harlandii in the lath before being changed to this. This plant material obviously belongs to another accession, but the number of that accession is not known and was not discovered during genetic tests. It clustered closely with NA 82660, Buxus sinica collected by Richard Olsen in China. -SBL Form received: unknown propagule type.
