Narrative
Full name as recorded at U.S. National Arboretum: Salvia 'Omaha Gold'. This (slightly) variegated cultivar is not S. guaranitica, although it may be a hybrid of that species with another, possibly S. mexicana. It is larger-growing and blooms very late in the year (S. guaranitica begins flowering early and blooms all summer), with a different inflorescence and flower shape that is more typical of S. mexicana. It is also notably less cold-hardy than S. guaranitica. -SBL
