Narrative
Full name as recorded at U.S. National Arboretum: Buxus (Colprit #4). Fast growing, spreading, tendency of tips to droop; yellow-green. [The USNA Boxwood SSR study initially grouped this with hybrids involving B. sempervirens and B. sinica var. insularis/microphylla; the final version of the paper showed it in a cluster with NA 21859-CH near the 'Nana' group of tetraploids (14443 was found to be triploid, while 21859 is tetraploid). Further study may be required to determine the background of this selection, but it appears to be at least a hybrid of what might be correctly called Buxus japonica, a wild Japanese species. -SBL
