Narrative
Arkot 1115 is a conventional cotton germplasm line with morphological traits similar to ‘UA222’ (check cultivar), except Arkot 1115 has slightly lower pubescence on leaves, stems, and bract margins. Lint yields of Arkot 1115 from replicated field tests at four sites in Arkansas over five years were greater than lint yields of UA222 and ‘UA48’ (check cultivar) at each location. Over all locations, lint yields of Arkot 1115 were 24.6% and 36.3% greater than UA222 and UA48, respectively. Soils at all sites are silt loams, except the Sharkey clay at Keiser. Compared to UA222, Arkot 1115 produced higher lint fraction (45.0 vs. 40.5%), seed ha-1 (18683 × 1000 vs. 16776 × 1000), lint index (7.8 vs. 7.6 g), fiber density (161 vs. 152 fibers mm-2 of seed coat), plant height (99 vs. 94 cm), open boll percentage (56 vs. 49%), quality score (66 vs. 53), fiber micronaire (4.55 vs. 4.45), fiber length (32.4 vs. 31.6 mm), and fiber uniformity index (86.7 vs. 85.5%) equal seed-score (68.5 vs. 73.4); and lower seed index (9.3 vs. 10.7 g), fibers per seed (15560 vs. 16105), leaf pubescence rating (4.3 vs. 5.5), stem pubescence (5.2 vs. 6.2 rating), and marginal bract trichome density (35 vs. 40 trichomes cm-1), fiber strength (308 vs. 316 kN m kg-1), fiber elongation (6.1 vs. 7.3%), and short fiber content (5.6 vs. 6.0%). Arkot 1115 is resistance to all U.S. races of Xanthomonas citri ssp. malvacearum (ex Smith 1901) Schaad et al. 2007, the causal agent of bacterial blight. Damaged flowers for Arkot 1115 (62%) was lower than the susceptible check (92%), equal to UA48 (65%) but higher than UA222 (54%) in tests of resistance to tarnished plant bug [Lygus lineolaris (Palisot de Beauvois)]. Resistance to seed deterioration of Arkot 1116 was lower than UA222 and UA48.
