Environment description: A series of terraces with ridges and slopes with seepage coming out of the slopes where the Sarracenia alata occurs.
Soils: The underlying geology of this area is classified as Pascagoula and Hattiesburg Formation of Miocene origin. This formation consists of green and bluish-green clay, sandy clay, and sand; gray siltstone and sand; locally fossiliferous.

The surface soil profile found in this area is Atmore loam soil. The Atmore series consists of very deep, poorly drained, moderately slowly permeable soils in depressions and interstream divides. They formed in sandy and loamy marine sediments in the Southern Coastal Plain. Slopes range from 0 to 8 percent. Solum thickness ranges from 1.5 to 2 meters with the upper 1 meter comprised of sandy loam and the lower portion strata comprised primarily of silty clay loam; all levels are strongly acid.
