Locality: Clear Creek; private land. [Likely in Bankhead National Forest; coordinates provided were 34.03443 deg. N, 83.37481 deg. W, which appear to be incorrect and are located in Georgia. Changing the degrees from 83 to 87 places the location very close to a creek that is likely Clear Creek, though it is unmarked on Google Maps. -SBL]

Environment description: Riparian habitat; includes a lot of Canadian hemlock, black gum, sourwood, red oak species, just up hill is Chionanthus. Closer to the water are Vaccinium species. Short-leafed pines are present.
Associated species: Tsuga canadensis; Nyssa sylvatica; Oxydendrum arboreum; Quercus spp. ("red oak species"); Chionanthus virginicus (just uphill from Stewartia); Vaccinium spp. (closer to the water); Pinus echinata
Comment: Approximately 40 trees producing seeds. [The seed collector was listed as Jack Johnson, but it is likely Jack Johnston instead. -SBL]
