Environment description: Dry, oak-hickory forest; exposed bluff. Organic soil with clay. Soil organic with clay.
Associated species: Carya tomentosa, Celtis sp., Diospyrus virginiana, Pinus palustris
Comment: Tree, often with multiple stems. Height 12 m; DBH up to 36 cm. Bark dark brown, furrowed. Leaves alternate; variously lobed with approximately five bristle-tipped lobes; tufts of hairs in vein axils beneath. Fruit: acorn, approximately 1.25 cm in diameter.
