Narrative
The cultivar is moderately resistant to smut, brown rust, and leaf scald. HoCP 05-961 is moderately susceptible to sugarcane mosaic caused by Sorghum mosaic virus and orange rust. It is moderately resistant to the sugarcane borer, Diatraea saccharalis F.. The bud is obovate without a bud groove . The canopy of Ho 05-961 is drooping and spreading . The dewlaps are deltoid, dark brown with a reddish purple hue. Auricles are present, slight to moderate in size, and slightly to mildly necrotic and lanceolate in shape. The ligule is bow shaped. Leaf sheaths are light green, loose on the stalk, have little to moderate wax that rubs off easily, and have few silicate hairs. The exposed rind color on stalks of Ho 05-961 is yellow green. Wax on the stalks of Ho 05-961 is heavy to moderate, and stalks do not contain growth cracks. Internodes are cylindrical in shape.
