Narrative
Selected by David Brenner from PI 658740 to isolate a rare decidious testa (seed coat) trait. The seeds are dark tan rather than black. This seed trait is described by: M. Pal and S. Shukla. 1990. An hexiploid grain Chenopodium from Eastern Himalayas. Newsletter of Himalayan Botany 8:12-14. The same seed trait appears to be described as "earthen" by T. Partap and P. Kapoor. 1985. The Himalayan grain chenopods. II. Comparative morphology. Agriculture, Ecosystem and Environment 14:201-220.

Description:
Eight pale seeds were selected from the 1993 seed lot of PI 658740 in 2020 by David Brenner. They were planted September 1, 2020,and harvested November 18, 2020 as DB 2020146, with a population size of seven plants. The 2020 seeds were planted January 11, 2021 and harvested April 30, 2021 as the first distribution seed lot of this accession.
