Description:
Bermudagrasses ‘MSB-264’ and ‘MSB-285’ are new and distinct bermudagrass varieties developed at Mississippi State University, Starkville, MS. ‘MSB-264’ and ‘MSB-285’ originated from a cross between Cynodon dactylon ‘MSB 28-18’, a very fine-leafed low-growing tetraploid (2n=4x=36), and C. transvaalensis genotype labeled ‘trans1’ (2n=2x=18). Accordingly, ‘MSB-264’ and ‘MSB-285’ are full siblings, sterile triploids (2n=3x=27) and do not produce seed. Cross pollination was performed in May 2003 at Starkville, Mississippi. Seeds from the cross were germinated in January 2004 in a controlled-temperature chamber. The seedlings were then individually transplanted to a greenhouse. ‘MSB-264’ and ‘MSB-285’ have been vegetatively propagated since germination.
